Job Opportunity with Living Earth Uganda

Living Earth Uganda (LEU) a natural resources and environmental management NGO based in Uganda and operating Country Wide, seeks to recruit dynamic, energetic and result oriented individuals to fill the following positions:

Job Title: Project Supervisor
Reports Directly to: Team Leader
Indirectly to: Senior Management of LEU

Job Summary:

Under the guidance of the Team Leader, LEU, the Project Supervisor will be responsible for the planning, management, co-ordination and financial control of the Project Coordination Office. The Project Supervisor will be responsible for all Project Staff and all the Property/Assets in a Coordination Office.

Detailed duties and responsibilities are:

  • Work with the Team Leader to prepare and  agree on realistic  project  strategies,  work plans with timeframe for implementing project activities and budgets.
  • Responsibility for high quality implementation of project activities at coordination office  ensuring maximum impact and results.
  • Provide periodic narrative and financial reports for the project , against workplans that meet the necessary reporting requirements and requests for information from the donors .
  • Monitor and supervise the implementation of activities of the project under the assigned coordination office
  • Work closely with any Consultants and Technical Advisors to ensure that their inputs and expected outputs are produced within the specified timeframe.
  • Support LEU in the development of funding proposals in order to upscale the project where appropriate.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Team leader.


  • Minimum of first degree in Project Management, Business Administration, Commerce, Economics, and Development studies. Post graduate training in related field is an added advantage
  • At least 4 years managerial experience in implementing similar projects
  • Substantial experience of strategic engagement and coordination of stakeholders from a variety of different sectors - including the private sector, national/local government, public sector bodies and civil society.
  • At least 3 years prior experience of managing partnerships as well as implementing donor projects. Knowledge of key donors requirements(EU , DFID, UNDP), familiarity with their rules and regulations is highly essential.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of working in Humantarian programmes i.e with refugees is desirable. 
  • Understanding and commitment to gender equality approaches in project delivery. 
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work cooperatively with partners
  • Proven skills & experience in report writing, documentation,  team management and project management skills
  • Strong analytical skills, strategic thinking and advocacy
  • Excellent interpersonal, and communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Excellent budget management skills
  • Good working knowledge of computer programmes including  MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work with limited supervision


Job Title: Project Accountant
Reports Directly to: Finance and Administration Manager and operationally to the Project Supervisor

Job Summary:

Under the guidance of the Finance and Administration Manager, LEU, the Project Accountant will be responsible for supporting project financial activities at Unit/regional offices. The Project Accountant will work operationally with the Project Supervisor(s).

Detailed Duties and responsibilities are:

  • Drawing a detailed workplan to guide implementation of activities.
  • Implementing Organizational Finance Policies and Procedures
  • Checking and ensuring accuracy of all receipts and payments transactions of the organization.
  • Responsible for entering financial information and maintaining all financial records for projects and for the organization. This will include Posting books of accounts and ensuring all accounting records are up-to-date and are maintained in accordance with the generally accepted accounting principles and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Obtain approvals as per organization policies and procedures  on all procurements and purchases for the projects and for the organization.
  • Preparation of monthly and annual financial reports.
  • Preparation and filing of tax returns, remittance of NSSF contribution and any other statutory obligations
  • Preparing the payroll and ensuring its proper deductions and accuracy.
  • Maintaining the Fixed Assets Register.
  • Ensuring proper control of organizational funds, stores and other assets.
  • Ensuring that due liabilities are discharged in time and due revenues are collected promptly.
  • Provide financial inputs for proposal development, project management, Human Resource Management policies, logistics, travel and other areas of administration.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by Management.


  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in  accounting or any related field
  • Require  at least 3 years’ experience  in similar field
  • Good working knowledge of computer programmes including MS Excel, Word, and accounting packages such as quick books etc is a MUST.
  • Possession of certified accounting  qualification or  part of it is an added advantage

Other requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
  • Proven skills & experience in report writing, documentation, and  team work
  • Excellent interpersonal, and communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Excellent budget and workplan  management skills
  • Ability to work with limited supervision


Job Title: Project Officer
Reports to: Project Supervisor

Under the guidance of the Project Supervisor, the Project officer will be responsible for project activities’ implementation on day to day basis.

Detailed Duties and Responsibilities are:

  • Drawing detailed activities’ work plan for project implementation for the assigned portfolio
  • Implementing all field project activities including identification of beneficiaries
  • Responsible for handling all interventions to beneficiaries benefitting from the project (s) including working with consultants engaged by the Institution.
  • Supporting the project supervisor in monitoring and supervision of the implementation of project activities.
  • Providing briefs to the Project Supervisor and management about the progress, constraints, challenges, lessons learned and achievements encountered during the course of implementing the project activities.
  • Work with the M&E Officer in project Database management and research.
  • Provide periodic timely and accurate reports to the immediate supervisor but also other stake holders with approval of LEU management.
  • Creating and strengthening existing linkages with all stakeholders to ensure successful project implementation.
  • Collection of all materials that can be used for documentation purposes, and publicity.
  • Any other duties assigned from time to time by management.


  • A first degree in Education, Social Studies, Commerce, Business Administration, Economics, Development studies or other relevant field. Post graduate qualifications in the related fields is an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
  • Posses skills  in report writing, and  documentation
  • Ability to work in a rural environment and frequent travel on rough roads.
  • Excellent interpersonal, and communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Ability to speak fluently at least two  local languages from Northern, Western,  and Albertine regions.
  • Good working knowledge of computer programmes including  MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Possession of a clean riding permit for motorcycles is an added advantage.


Job title: Project Driver

Reports to: Project Supervisor

Job Summary:

The Project Driver will be mainly responsible for driving and maintenance of Living Earth vehicle(s), driving project staff and other authorized persons on authorized trips of the organization.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for driving project staff and other authorized persons to and from various points.
  • Observe and adhere to the safety precautions before and during driving.
  • Maintain proper vehicle mileage and usage records as per requirements.
  • Perform daily condition checks to ensure that the vehicle is in good running order.
  • In charge of keeping the vehicle in a clean condition in order to uphold the image of the organization.
  • Deliver and collect mails and other documents to and from various offices as required.
  • Pick up and deliver LEU visitors and any other staff who are authorized to travel in the LEU vehicle.
  • Maintain punctuality and courtesy and adhere to traffic laws and regulations;
  • Maintain confidentially of LEU information at all times while executing duties.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The LEU Project Driver must have at least five (5) years’ driving experience
  • The applicants must also hold an Ordinary level certificate of education
  • Possess a valid driving license for classes preferably A and B;
  • Possession a Certificate in Defensive Driving will be an added advantage
  • Good computer literacy and excellent documentation skills are a must.
  • Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times when it is required.
  • Highly developed language and cultural awareness of Western, Albertine, Central and greater Northern  Uganda.
  • Possess the ability to work well in an environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Possess the ability perform effectively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to travel and work upcountry most of the time
